No, We Are Not A Hiring Authority

From time to time I receive an email from someone that goes something like this:

I just found your website and am sending a copy of my resume to you in hopes that you will consider me for a job…

Well, the last I looked this site is a resource center, not a hiring authority — I guess I should be flattered, but I hope that there isn’t something on this site that gives people another impression.

Anyway, I always respond to such inquiries and that is usually the end of it all. If you are looking for work, then simply sign up on our forums and check out the Job Opportunities section to learn who in business aviation is hiring.

Possibly Capping The Number of Online Resumes

I recently began thinking about something that I hadn’t given much thought of in a long time: capping the number of online resumes on our site.

Currently, there are 35 resumes featured on the home page of the site, on the Corporate F/A landing page, and on this blog. One drawback of having too many more resumes featured is that the links to the resumes could be discounted by the search engines as there could be too many on one page. A webmaster rule of thumb says that 50 is the maximum number of links for any web page and we’ve already exceeded that number. Still, the excess amounts haven’t hurt matters…yet.

I’ll consider taking new action sometime in January or February. What I may do is this: cap the resumes and let people get on a waiting list. If someone gets removed down the line, then the next person in line would get their chance. Food for thought!

We’re #1!

It is nice to see when search engine optimization {SEO} pays off. For those of you not knowing what SEO is, it is the steps that the webmaster takes to make his or her site perform well with the search engines. The better it performs, the more likely it will be found…this is especially good news for everyone who features their resume online through our site.

I am not too concerned whether the site will stay in first place, that isn’t my primary objective. Instead, I like it when the major search engines — Google, Yahoo!, and MSN — recognize the site for its helpful information to corporate flight attendants. Yes, in many eyes the Corporate Flight Attendant Community website at www.corporateflyer.net is recognized as an authority site. It sure is nice when the search engines agree with that assessment!

Christmas Greetings to One and to All!

The Ungrateful Newbie

There isn’t a whole lot that ruffles my feathers in life; I figure that our lives are too precious and too short to get upset about things that are out of our control or concern ourselves with those things that are simply minor distractions.

A day or two ago I logged onto our forums and read GalleyKat’s “shopping for the aircraft” thread and my jaw promptly dropped open. It seems that GK received a call from another corporate flight attendant asking for some advice, but when she gave it, this person rejected what GK had to say and decided she would do what she wanted to do. In this case it was to charge a client for shopping on her own time.

A word to all: If you are in business aviation, please don’t ask for advice and then summarily reject what is shared with you out of hand. Also, don’t expect that you’ll be endeared by many in the way that you treat others. Business aviation is a small industry and word does get around — don’t let your bad behavior precede you!

The Current Resume Offer

The current resume offer for this site is still $89 which is for a one year subscription. For 2007, I fully expect to keep that price stable.

I have one resume pending which will be done between Christmas and New Year’s Day. My next available time after that for posting resumes will not be until mid-January as I have recently learned that a client wants to use my writing services for the first two weeks of the new year. However, if you would like to be featured and you meet the site’s requirements, then please go ahead and fill out the form and send it off to me.

I’ll contact you once I am ready to proceed.

Check Out Thirty Thousand Feet

I am often asked where a person can go to find useful and helpful information concerning the aviation industry. One site that pulls together all of that information is Thirty Thousand Feet, an aviation directory.

The site features links to message board, job sites, training companies, discussion groups, blogs, photo sites, you name it. Thirty Thousand Feet has been around since 2000 which is fairly long time in the cyber world. Go ahead and check them out and bookmark the site — you’ll be back again and again!

2007 Business Aviation Hiring Trends

I received an email recently from a familiar name on our forums who asked me this question, “do you think that hiring will remain strong for 2007 in business aviation?” Well, I am not sure if there is an easy way to predict it, but I would think that overall business aviation hiring will be up in 2007. Mostly due to the number of very light jets coming out, but it is nearly impossible to tell how many large cabin jets will be produced and how many of them will require corporate flight attendants.

If you care to follow the thread, Potiai has asked the same question to our site members.
